I had the opportunity to play with Hoffman's newest panels by Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero. There are so many things that can be done using these beautiful pieces of fabric. I decided to make a new version of our Sea Turtles and Dolphins Hawaiian Wall Quilt Pattern. The depth in the Teal version just called to me that it needed to have the Sea Turtles and Dolphins on it. It makes me think of the ocean. The quilting is not the traditional echo quilting but I followed the lines in the panel, those lines just called for quilting!
Then came the Opal Panel. This became the background for a new version of My First Sewing Machine 2 Fabric Applique. Since these panels are 43" squares I was able to shift the pattern around a bit to get the perfect placement for the center of the panel. As you can see I placed it just under the arm of the sewing machine. This one was quilted in the ditch and then following the radiating lines of the fabric design.
The Hummingbird version of the panel is spring colors so I decided a small version of the Forest Finery Applique Border and Runner Pattern would be perfect. I chose to take the center 15" section of the panel for the runner. I also used the Hoffman 1895 batiks for the leaves, flowers and stems. These fabrics are available in our Yardage Section of the website. I also have created kits for the Sea Turtles and Dolphins Hawaiian Wall Quilt and the My First Sewing Machine Patterns. They can be found on our Quilt Kit Page.
