My journey started as a self taught piecing quilter in my mid 60's. I was fortunate enough to meet a beautiful Hawaiian couple, he knew I liked quilting so showed me pictures of Hawaiian quilts and oh, my gosh... I fell in love with the look. They sent me a pillow kit with the breadfruit design.
I went online searching how to do needleturn applique and hand quilting, after much reading, I started the pillow and fell in love with the style immediately. I lived near a great little quilt shop that held classes, so I decided to take a class in both needleturn and hand quilting before I got too many bad habits. I found I loved it even more. It was when I was online looking for patterns that I found Pacific Rim Quilt Company, which was owned by Nancy Lee Chong and her sister Janice at the time. I bought a bunch of patterns plus Nancy's book and DVD on Hawaiian Quilting. Then there was no holding me back.
I can never repay my Hawaiian friends, they have some of my quilts. They are the ones that opened up a new quilting world for me. As you can imagine I treasure their friendship. That is my journey. Margaret
